An investigation has been launched into the death of a 40 year old Kenyan man detained at Oakington immigration removal centre. A fellow detainee told NCADC that the man woke at 2am feeling dizzy and sick, and made repeated pleas for a doctor and painkillers. He was told he would have to wait until 7pm the followign day, but soon died.
Many detainees took part in a loud and angry protest, at one point breaking through the centre’s gates, although it is not thought that any attempted escape. Things calmed down, but the detainees are still angry and again yesterday the gates were broken down.
