Afghan student detained
Mit Singh Chopra is a 19 year old Sikh man, from Afghanistan, and a student at Westminster Kingsway College. On Friday 24th September at 6am immigration police came into Mit Chopra’s home and took him into detention under threat of deportation. Mit’s family, support and connections are all here in London. It is urgent that the whole community – students, staff, neighbours, friends, community and all supporters – stand up, demonstrate, write letters, petition, and make it clear to the Home Office that Mit is a part of our community, he is our colleague, peer and friend, and that Mit Must Stay! Go to the Facebook page for info, model letters to the Home Secretary and more.

Next stage in the legal fight for exiled journalist Charles Atangana
via NUJ
Charles Atangana, an NUJ member fighting deportation to Cameroon will appear before a judge at the High Court on the Strand in London on Thursday 7 October. Charles Atangana, who fled to the UK six years ago after being detained and beaten in his homeland, is seeking a judicial review into the decision to deport him. Journalists and other trade unionists are being urged to demonstrate outside the court in Charles’s support on Thursday 7 October. We will not know the time or court number until the day before but we are likely to hold the protest at 9.45am (but this may be subject to change).
