New Secretary of state for the Home Department.

This is Theresa May, the new Secretary of State for the Home Department. She worked in the city of London before becoming an MP in 1997. She studied Geography at Hugh’s College, Oxford University. She was a member of the shadow (Conservative) cabinet between 1999 and 2010, and was the first female chairman of the conservative party. Socially, she is best known for wearing beautiful shoes.
Her current position as the Secretary of State for the Home Department makes her ultimately responsible for the implementation of the conservative agenda on immigration – notably the cap system.  The new conservative government is expected to place a cap on the number of people allowable into UK from non EU countries. This policy is expected to adversely affect commonwealth citizens on a large scale.
The government has no control over the number of people coming into UK from EU countries because EU citizens exercise free movement rights under EU law.
